New Leash on Life USA is a Pennsylvania 501(c)(3) non-profit, prison-dog training program, dedicated to improving the life of inmates and saving the lives of dogs.

Providence Animal Center participates in this program by sending dogs from our shelter into the Philadelphia Prison Systems to work with prison inmates who care for, socialize and train the dogs to enhance their adoptability. Inmates attend workshops on life skills and job readiness, and receive opportunities for paid internships in our shelter when they are paroled. Many interns have turned into employees. After each “class” graduates, the dogs are then adopted out through New Leash on Life’s adoption program.
