Domestic Abuse Project
Safe Haven Program
In this program, Providence Animal Center partners with the Domestic Abuse Project of Delaware County (DAP) to provide emergency shelter to the pets of victims of domestic abuse.
More than 70% of pet-owning victims report that their abusive partner used a pet to exert control over them through threats, harm or even death to the family pet. Often in these cases, 25 percent of victims return to their abuser out of fear for their pet.
Luckily, due to this steadfast partnership, victims’ pets have the option of safe housing. This alliance allows domestic violence victims residence in DAP’s shelter with the peace of mind that their pets are safe from harm at Providence Animal Center.
