This Veterans Day, Wednesday, November 11, we will be offering a goody bag and free leash & collar or cat carrier to Veterans with an adoption appointment on that day. Limited spots are available. Text 610-566-4575 to book and mention that you are a Veteran.
If you're a cat owner and finances are tight, you still want to make sure your fur-baby is healthy and has everything he or she needs to live a long life, right? Part of the key to your cat's overall health is getting him or her spayed or neutered. Luckily, on March 1st, we're hosting our first Cat Spay Day, where we are offering spay/neuter surgeries at a drastically reduced fee of $15 (normally $50). We are able to discount the surgeries thanks to the Casey Feldman Memorial Foundation, an organization that provides financial support to individuals, groups and institutions whose interests and goals align with those of Casey Feldman, who was a 21-year-old Delco native who died on July 17, 2009, after being hit by a distracted driver on her way to a summer job as a waitress in Ocean City, N.J.
On average, a female cat has 1-8 kittens per litter and 2-3 litters a year. In one cat’s reproductive lifespan, one female could have more than 100 kittens. Furthermore, a single pair of cats and their kittens can produce as many as 420,000 kittens in 7 years! If more people got their cats spay/neutered, we could help reduce the homeless animal problem in our county – and our country – dramatically.
When you get your cat spay/neutered, potential health risks like different cancers, marking, risks of different diseases and behavior problems can be reduced if not avoided entirely.
In animal activist Casey's memory and thanks to the generosity of the Foundation, our medical team hopes to spay and neuter up to 100 owned and community cats on March 1st. Cat Spay Day will be held from 9am-5pm and is by-appointment only. Cats must be at least 4 months old to be eligible for the surgery. To schedule an appointment for Cat Spay Day, call (610) 566- 1370 x216.
Have you heard about our upcoming Bark in the Park Dog Walk/5K Run and Fall Festival? It’s the biggest event and fundraiser of the year, and YOU’RE invited! This fun-filled day for you and your doggy-friend begins in the morning with a 5K run and 1-mile walk to help raise awareness and much-needed funds to continue saving homeless animals across the country from over-crowded shelters.
Expect food, music, raffles, dog contests (register for those here!) and so much more. We will be hosting an offsite vaccine and microchipping clinic from 11am-1pm if you’re looking to get your fur-baby up-to-date for the year. All proceeds go to Providence Animal Center, allowing us to continue doing what we do best: saving those who need it most. The more money we raise, the more lives we save.
Before the race, there will be pre-run yoga to get the juices flowing from 9am-10am followed by the 5K starting at 10am! Walkers will begin at 10:45am. The Festival itself will go from 11am-3pm.
If you weren’t interested in running in the race, you can get involved while giving a Providence pal some good exercise and fresh air by “renting” one of our adoptable dogs. If you’re unable to attend the event but still want to help us raise money for homeless pets, sign up to be a Virtual Walker and start a fundraising page. Incentive prizes will be given to those who reach specific levels of fundraising.
Every person who gets involved in this lifesaving event helps tremendously in ways we are beyond grateful for. This is a day you don’t want to miss!
Join us for the biggest adoption day of the entire year: July 23rd from 10am-4pm when we hope to Clear the Shelter!
For one day only, remedy adoption fees will be waived on all animals in the Adoption Center! We’ll have the largest selection of animals yet – up to 200 pets. Every adopter will receive cool giveaways from our sponsors.
We’ll have a food truck, bake sale, a raffle, merchandise for your new pet and more!
Come ready to adopt:
- With your entire family in tow
- Bring current vet records showing pets are up-to-date on vaccinations or a letter of recommendation from a vet
- A mortgage statement or lease stating you can have a pet (this can be shown electronically as well)
- If your lease states that you need written permission, please bring this
- If you’re planning to add another dog, be sure to bring any resident dog(s) so the dogs can meet
- Required fees the day of adoption include Delco dog licenses ($7) for anyone who lives in Delaware County and is adopting a dog, leash/collar for dogs ($15 for dogs over 15lbs and $3 for puppies and dogs under 15lbs) and a cardboard cat carrier (if you do not already have a carrier), which is a $5 fee
- Review our list of adoption requirements here
Please keep in mind: we rely on adoption fees to keep our doors open. Adoption fees will be waived during the event, but we would be grateful to receive donations to help supplement the cost of your adopted pet’s care, which will also help us continue to save more pets like the new forever friend you adopt on Saturday!
